Domaine Christian Moreau Les Clos 2016 Grand Cru 75cl France
In 1814, Jean Joseph Moreau, a "tonnelier" from Montbard, founded the wine-merchant and trading firm, J. Moreau et ils, in Chablis. However, the Moreau family decided to give the Canadian company, Hiram Walker, a 50 per cent stake in their company in 1974. The remaining shares of the company were subsequently transferred to the company in 1985.
The firm J. Moreau et Fils was then sold to the wine-trading company, Boisset de Nuits Saint-Georges. Since then, no one in the family has been part of the company. With the 2002 vintage, the Christian Moreau family regained their full rights, not only to exploit their own vineyards, but also to make and market the wines belonging to their Domaine.
In particular, the Domaine Christian Moreau Les Clos 2016 Grand Cru is a rich white wine from the austere Les Clos vineyard. It is an incredibly complex and delicious Chardonnay that easily holds its weight against the great masters in Puligny, Meursault and Corton-Charlemagne.
On the nose, the Domaine Christian Moreau Les Clos 2016 Grand Cru offers a hedonistic bouquet of lush citrus, tart green apples, white flowers and fresh herbs. Expect delicate yet pronounced saline minerals, supported by a slight hint of toast.
On the palate, the Domaine Christian Moreau Les Clos 2016 Grand Cru offers flavours of musky narcissus and peony which adds to its seductive intrigue. It has an expansive and sustained finish, along with a peach kernel and citrus rind lingering. Expect laser-precise on the palate with zippy acidity and immaculate detail.
